Japan Lanka Agriculture Industrial Research and Training Centre (Pvt) Ltd. U(JLATC), held the ground breaking ceremony for the First Japanese model farm in Walpita Farm, Divulapitiya.
Chief guest was the Minister of Agriculture Duminda Dissanayake, while Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture B. Wijerathna, Director General for Department of Agriculture Dr Rohan Wijekoon, Advisor to the Minister of Agriculture Dr Gerry Jayawardena were among those present.
Special Japanese invitees were, Managing Director Tomoharu Ueneka and Director Akihiro Morisaki from SORA FARM JAPAN who are partners to the Chairman of JLATC.
JLATC is a BOI approved company which has signed a joint venture agreement with Department of Agriculture in Sri Lanka to introduce and promote Japanese Farming Technology and the know how to help Sri Lankan farmers to enhance their knowledge and harvest. Farmers will be educated to operate all hi tech machinery plus they will have the opportunity to work and learn Japanese farming methods in Japan.
In this Japanese type tunnel farming method in the center all vegetables will be produced with Japanese quality organic fertilizer and high quality seeds. This is the first of this kind in Sri Lanka to promote agriculture tourism in the western region.
Chairman of the company will be bringing in the initial investment of US$ 1 million through Japan Lanka Agriculture Industrial Research and Training Centre (Pvt) Ltd., Company will be following the Japanese MICHINNO EKI concept to provide high quality services to the customers and also to encourage small farmers, to sell their products through smart phone and as well as in the center.
MICHINNO EKI concept will provide below mentioned services.: Agriculture Information Center, Agriculture Products Center, Seeds, Plants & Fertilizer Center, Training Center for young farmers, Tourist Information, Restaurants for Travelers and Commuters, Cultural, Recreational & Event Center, Free Parking, Free Wi-Fi.
